Soft liner

The soft liner is a soft cushion that is placed in lower complete dentures of patients with severe atrophy of the lower alveolar ridge (reduction of bone level due to loss of natural teeth) wishing for more comfort while keeping conventional dentures.

It allows for relief of chronic gum pain and adherence of lower dentures and sometimes helps position the dentures in retention zones of the mouth, thanks to resilience of material.

The soft liner settles during denture processing. With proper maintenance, Its lifespan is about 3 years. It can be replaced after denture fabrication by taking an impression, removing the soft liner, adding material and reprocessing the dentures.

Soft liner maintenance

It is strongly recommended to remove your dentures before sleep, especially for complete dentures, as they rest on the mucosa. To promote good blood circulation, massage your gums and palate with your thumb or a soft brush.

Avoid brushing the soft liner too vigorously.

Clean the tongue with a soft brush or tongue scraper to remove a considerable amount of bacteria. The tongue’s texture holds bacteria in place.

Rinse your mouth after every meal.

Clean your dentures thoroughly with a toothbrush or denture brush and a mild toothpaste or soap.

Prevent discoloration by using a cleaning solution designed for soft liner dentures.

Read aloud and practise difficult words. Your mouth muscles will accommodate your new dentures faster.

Remember that adjustments may be required after your dentures have been placed. I’d be happy to answer your needs.
